SECURING THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY

ICARAS were engaged to provide Protective Security Consultation services to an organisation operating within the scientific community.  ICARAS’ conducted a variety of tasks spanning Protective Security site visits, audit, review, governance, and Physical Security Threat Assessments.  The organisation involved had a nationwide footprint with facilities that hold highly sensitive material ranging from biohazards to evidence in criminal cases.

Specific outputs for this project included:

  • Protective security site visits for all of its laboratories and assets nationally.

  • The production of detailed reports for each site containing a summary of the assessed threat, identified vulnerabilities and proportionate risk mitigation measures.

  • An organisational overview report that captured the key organisational level protective security risks that required addressing.  These risks included enhancement of security policy and procedures, physical security, security culture, training, alert levels, security zones, and incident response.

  • Clarification of existing protective security measures, and provision of a greater understanding of the security and safety risks, as well as the duty of care to employees, clients and visitors.

  • Provision of recommendations to mitigate existing risks to an acceptable level.

  • Organisational security policy review and provision of observations regarding security of information and personnel security.

  • Advice regarding security education and training of staff.

  • Assistance in the implementation of several risk-mitigation areas.

ICARAS has conducted a number of similar projects in the science and technology domains, and will always ensure that the outputs of any such services align with the detailed requirements of the organisation.
